Day 1 – Prague – Cesky Krumlov
Description of the day: This bike tour in Czech Republic will start by a pickup in Prague’s hotel or at the airport (possible to arrange a pick up in a different city) and transport to Cesky Krumlov (2.5 hours). We will spend the afternoon visiting Cesky Krumlov, which is often called “The pearl of Renaissance”. We will admire a complex of more than 300 historical buildings surrounding a Renaissance castle, which used to be the residence of the most significant aristocratic family in the times of the Czech Kingdom. The evening visit of brewery restaurant will provide us with the possibility to try various specialties of beer cuisine, such as marinated molded cheese, headcheese and to wash it down by one of the four types of local beers, which have been made in Krumlov since 1336. (For more information go to the cuisine section)
Day 2 – Cesky Krumlov – Ceske Budejovice
Distance: 31 km/20 miles
Description of the day: This day, we will venture through a slightly hilly countryside for 31 km (shortest option). On the way, we will visit an old monastery Zlata Koruna (Golden Crown), which has its origins in the 13th century when it became an important center of education and ruling power of its time. From here we will continue to the South Bohemian metropolis Ceske Budejovice (Budweis), which is famous not only for its well-preserved main square with a Baroque fountain, the Black Tower and horse-pulled train, but primarily for the world-wide known beverage carrying the name of Budweiser Budvar. The first sip of this delightful drink will prove that this beer belongs to the Czech country treasures. One of local restaurants offers “pints” of half a gallon (2 liters) to the real admirers of this drink).
If you want to prolong your bike tour in Czech Republic, there is a wonderful castle Hluboka nad Vltavou in the vicinity of Ceske Budejovice or Holašovice UNESCO village!
Day 3 – Ceske Budejovice – Trebon
Distance: 26 km/16 miles
Description of the day: On the third day we will follow the traces of ancient silver mining. After an initial climb, we will enter the region of plains surrounding a scenic South Bohemian town of Trebon. This town is proud of its majestic tomb of the Schwarzenberg dukes, a magnificent castle and a well preserved town center. There are few people who can go around the world in 80 days, but going around a pond called The World will take you about 1.5 hours. At the end of the day of this bike tour in Czech Republic, we will visit the Bohemia Regent brewery. The brewery’s building has been part of the historical center of the town since 1376.
Day 4 – Trebon – Tabor
Distance: 27 kms / 17 miles
Description of the day: This is the last biking day. It goes through romantic pond area of Trebonsko (UNESCO). In the beginning you will go along the biggest czech pond – Rozmberk, then follow the lazy stream of the Luznice river and finally right across ponds of poetic names like Good Will, Faith, Hope or Love to the small town of Veseli nad Luznici where you will reach eather car (guided) or train (selfguided) for the way to the nice old town of Tábor. Other option is to take the train to Veselí nad Lužnicí and bike from there through nice “farmer baroque” villages of south Bohemia to Tábor. For the keen bikers, there is still the option of doing the whole day (nearly 70 kms / 44 miles)
Day 5 – Tabor – Prague
Description of the day: We will return to Prague on this day and you will have a chance to visit this beautiful city (for more see the Prague section). We will conclude our bike tour in picturesque Czech Republic by a great lunch in a stylish restaurant of Prague’s Staropramen brewery, where we will be able to say the Czech “Na zdravi”! (“Cheers”) for the last time. If you are not tired of biking, we highly recommend unique Prague by bike tour (see more in Prague by bike section). The tour is guided by Prague born guides who truly love the city and will show you much more than Lonely Planet highlights and moreover – all of it done by bike and finished by a mug of good beer in carefully chosen place. Do not hesitate to ask us for this extra tour – it is the most beloved one of our clients! If time is not your worst enemy, we do propose to stay in Prague more days to fully explore the beautiful spots and hidden corners of it.
